Who am I ?
I’m Jailine Cano Olivas, I come from a lineage of Mexican farmers but my parents immigrated to the United States to provide their children with better opportunities. As a result, I grew up moving a lot, transforming my own personal idea of home. Within my series, ‘Welcome Home’ I explore what home means to me through practices such as natural dying, metalworking, weaving, and untraditional ways of working that reconnect me back to my heritage.
I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in 2020 with a BFA in Fiber art. I explored technical textile structures, the duality of soft and hard materials within my body of work. My practice heavily revolves around sustainable dying of Natural fibers through the process of using and expanding my knowledge of natural dyes.
My work now transcends to actual product. Using my expertise both in color and material to create thoughtful design products.
